Pensions & investmentsReviewed 1 September 2026

Protect flexibility before moving money.

Pension and investment decisions are often irreversible, fee-heavy and tax-sensitive. Administrative access, currency and provider residency rules matter alongside tax.

The UK-to-Israel lens

Protect UK pension options before moving

1

Get a current UK State Pension forecast and review National Insurance gaps before departure.

2

Ask each workplace or personal pension provider whether it serves Israel-resident customers.

3

Take regulated UK and Israeli advice before a transfer or irreversible withdrawal.

The short version

Three things to keep in view

1

Get a current State Pension forecast and check gaps before departure.

2

Ask every provider what changes when your address and tax residence change.

3

Do not transfer a pension merely because a product is marketed to expatriates.

01

UK State Pension

You can usually claim a UK State Pension abroad if you have enough qualifying National Insurance years. Payment and annual increases depend on current rules and the country arrangements.

02

Workplace and personal pensions

  • List scheme type, guarantees, protected ages, beneficiaries and all charges.
  • Ask whether the provider will service an Israel-resident customer.
  • Model UK and Israeli tax on contributions, growth and withdrawals.
  • Use an FCA-authorised adviser where UK regulated advice is required and obtain Israeli advice on local treatment.
03

ISAs and general investments

An ISA’s UK wrapper does not automatically determine Israeli treatment. New contributions, provider access, reporting and tax can differ after non-residence.

04

Currency and cash flow

  • Match near-term shekel spending with an appropriate cash reserve.
  • Compare total exchange cost, not only the advertised rate.
  • Avoid concentrating the entire move on one transfer date.
  • Keep secure access to UK accounts, authentication and correspondence.
