Disability and special educational needs
Start continuity planning early and describe the person’s actual support needs, strengths and daily life. A UK diagnosis or award is useful evidence but does not automatically create an equivalent Israeli service or entitlement.

The UK-to-Israel lens
Carry the evidence; rebuild the support
Collect current UK assessments, EHCP or support plans, reports, medication information and practical strategies.
Do not assume UK provision or terminology transfers automatically to an Israeli setting.
Speak directly with prospective schools, services and qualified professionals before choosing an area.
The short version
Three things to keep in view
Bring current functional evidence, not only diagnostic labels.
Map health, education, benefits, housing and transport as separate systems.
Confirm every entitlement and service through the responsible Israeli body.
Create a continuity file
- Diagnostic reports, clinical letters and a concise current-care summary.
- Medication, equipment, therapy and communication needs.
- Education plans, assessments, classroom adjustments and work samples.
- Functional evidence covering mobility, personal care, supervision and daily activities.
- Named UK contacts who may lawfully answer follow-up questions.
Healthcare and therapies
Contact the intended health fund and relevant services early. Ask how referrals, prescriptions, equipment, mental-health support and therapies are assessed and delivered.
Do not interrupt treatment or change equipment based on general website information.
Education and transition
- Ask the local authority and school who assesses support and placement.
- Explain communication, sensory, behavioural, medical and learning needs clearly.
- Request accessible meetings and interpretation where needed.
- Plan transition visits and transport rather than focusing only on the official placement.
- Keep the child’s preferences and strengths central.
Benefits and practical support
Disability benefits, care support and concessions have their own residence, medical and functional tests. A UK Personal Independence Payment, Disability Living Allowance, Education Health and Care Plan or other award does not itself guarantee Israeli entitlement.
Housing, transport and community
- Inspect step-free access, lifts, safe rooms, bathrooms and emergency arrangements.
- Test the actual journey to school, work, therapy and healthcare.
- Ask about accessible transport and parking through official local routes.
- Identify respite, peer and family support without assuming availability.
