- Raise differing documents or previous names early and explain them clearly.
- For a spouse or partner route, obtain case-specific official guidance.
Legal recognition questions
Immigration status, civil registration, marriage, parenthood and religious recognition can involve different legal systems. Do not assume one recognition automatically decides another.

Healthcare
- Plan uninterrupted medication and bring concise records.
- Ask prospective health funds and clinics about the services relevant to you.

Community and housing
- Research local organisations, social groups and services that are active now.
- Consider commute, budget, healthcare, religious or secular life and personal support.
- Talk to more than one resident; individual experiences differ.
- Include safety, privacy and family needs in property decisions.
Parenting and schools
Ask schools directly about family communication, safeguarding and support. Legal parenthood documents and school records should be prepared carefully where family structures cross jurisdictions.
